Photographic scrapbook, 197-?, documents the construction of the East (Coley) wing of the Ala. Dept. of Archives and History in the mid-1970s. The scrapbook includes photographs of the original designs, the ground-breaking ceremony, and actual construction as well as various newspaper clippings concerning the new wing. There are roughly ninety 3 x 5, 4 x 6, and 8 x 10 photographs in this scrapbook. The photographs and clippings are glued on to unbound construction paper.

Milo Barrett Howard, fourth Director of the Ala. Dept. of Archives and History (1967-1981), was a native of Montgomery, Ala. He received his B.A. & M.A. from Auburn University and in 1952 began working at the Archives. During his tenure as Director, the Archives staff increased from 19 to 47 and the East Wing (Coley Wing) of the Archives was built.
